What is a area?
Area measures the surface a shape covers, counted in square units like cm² or m². For a rectangle, area is length × width. You can think of it as how many unit squares fit inside the shape with no gaps or overlaps.
Examples
- A 5 cm by 3 cm rectangle has area 5 × 3 = 15 cm².
- A square with 4 cm sides: 4 × 4 = 16 cm².
- A 2 m by 6 m room covers 12 m².
Quick facts
- Area is measured in square units (cm², m²); perimeter is a plain length.
- Area of a triangle is ½ × base × height.
